Midyear Refresh, June & Q2 wrap-up, Twenty 25s in 2025 update, Yoga Wednesdays in August

Hello beautiful,

Happy August!

Part of my midyear refresh process, around the end of June (in the summer, 6 months in, conveniently after my birthday) I like to check in about my annual Stand and declarations. It took all of July to gather my data from the first half of the year and reflect on what was significant to me in that time and what I want to make out of the coming summer and fall. It feels good to be complete!

June brought ripe strawberries, the end of a sweet spring in Cologne and in the US, a heat wave, hay fever, relief that a couple critical medical procedures in the family seem to have been successful, end-of-schoolyear, start of the summer, and birthday fests. In this article I wrap up the month of June and Quarter 2 as a whole as related to my own projects, life and events:

My other creations, recommendations, and questions for you are:

Listening:

Reading:

Viewing:

  • "Raising Arizona" 1987 film with young Nicholas Cage and Holly Hunter: I love the Cohen Brothers, acting, writing and cinematography are flawless, humor on point, so glad I got to share this with Ela
  • "I Kissed a Girl" is our latest queer "reality" drama series, which started with last year's "Princess Charming" craze, then post-PRIDE bingeing "The Ultimatum: Queer Love"
  • Two SNL skits came onto my radar this week: "Black Lotus" (fitting for our recent enthusiasm for "The White Lotus" series) and
  • "Same Sad You (but on vacation)" which brings truth in advertising: "we can take you on a hike, but we can't turn you into someone who likes hiking" 😂

Practicing:

Practicing Together LIVE / Adult Movement Classes this week:

  • In-Studio Adult Beginner Ballet, 6-7:00pm CET Mondays, Tanzschule Tanzraum Nippes, Cologne, Germany creates a strong, body-friendly, and graceful foundation for dance with drop-ins and Eversports access available (German)
  • Online Yogalicious Gentle Yoga. 7-8:00pm CET Wednesdays (7-8:00am HI) provides a delicious mindful movement feast which balances strength, balance and coordination for mind, body, and spirit adaptable to all levels and conditions (English) NOTE: in August, Yummy Gentle Yoga is on Wednesdays (previously Tuesday)
  • Online Balletlicious Gentle Adaptive Ballet Barre+, 7:30-8:30am CET Fridays (Thursday p.m. HI) consists of mostly barre with a little dancey centre work, building a strong, body-friendly, and graceful foundation for dance at home or anywhere in the world (English)

Inquiring:

  • What went on for you during June, Quarter 2 and the first half of the year?
  • Which projects are you bringing forward as priorities in the second half of the year?
  • What will you let go of and what rituals of release can refresh you for the upcoming period?
  • How do you create safe space for yourself and others?

Gladly share your response to the questions above or provide other updates by replying to this email or on social media if you are active there.

Thank you for reading, for being, and for dancing with me, in spirit or in fact. Take care of yourself, pay attention, and keep moving mindfully!

Love, Blythe

Hello beautiful, Whether you are in a romantic place in life or not, I hope you feel loved in so many ways! I've missed you and feel we have much to catch up on. Self-love, friendship old and new, mentorship, family and chosen family love, I believe it is the most important thing, so it touched my heart to hear the resounding message in Bad Bunny's Superbowl 60 halftime show, among other powerful stories it told. "The only thing more powerful than hate is love." - Bad Bunny Happy Year of the...

Carrot Ginger Soup to warm my January

Hello beautiful, Happy New Year! I hope you are having a mellow and fulfilling transition into 2026. For me it has been a slow and gentle liminal period of rest, reflection, celebration, starting to plan the year ahead but honoring the rhythms of my personal year, with no hard deadlines. I do like to set intentions and plan events each New Year, but take my time in doing so. Teaching online, in-studio and school, sharing resources on YouTube, articles on the blog, as well as on Social Media...

Cologne Cathedral Christmas Market with Cousins

So grateful you are here, in connection online, through digital media and in real life, in class and in conversation this year, lending your presence to my life and the world. Have been celebrating my partner's birthday, the end of the semester and Advanced Dance Program, the holidays with a visit from my cousin and his family, the traditional meals with Ela's family coming next. Feeling very...
