Back to School, Summer's End, Minimal Makeup & Self Care for maximal creativity elsewhere

Hello gentle person,

Happy almost-September! Since my last message we have been enjoying warm weather in Cologne, and meanwhile my parents weathered Hurricane Lala in Hawai'i! They came through ok, though other areas were devastated by flooding.

I've been dancing every day this month, with my own in-studio and online classes continuing as well as covering classes for colleagues taking vacation. Still had a bit more leisure time than I will soon, to explore some of the hobbies and activities listed in my "Arts & Crafts Camp" while taking a look at the year so far and preparing for new classes and projects this fall.

Maybe you have also been doing some summer cleaning, reflection, completion, taking stock, curating. Professional, personal and family challenges do always arise, so this may be a good time to do a personal-care check-in and make sure systems of support are in place. We also got skin cancer screenings at the Dermatologist's and are attending to other preventive care.

School starts back here in Nordrhein Westfallen (NRW, Germany, in which Cologne is located) next week, and I'll be introducing my new elective classes for the academic year the following week. Online Balletlicious Adaptive Ballet takes place on Fridays 8:30 CEST in September, then will move to 12:00 October-December. Yogalicious Gentle Yoga will be Mondays 19:00 CEST, and may need to change days October-December but I am consulting with participants as to which day. Want to join? Let me know when's best for you!

It's technically still summer (in the Northern Hemisphere) until the Equinox on the 21st! Still in a summery mood? Maybe you'd enjoy some of my previous summery articles:

Rather ready to feel the fall vibes? These autumnal entries might be more your speed:

This tends to be a very stressful time of year, so you see Self-Care is a recurring theme. It is wonderful to feel refreshed and take exquisite care of body, mind, and soul. I'm fortunate to indulge in personal care in alignment with my personal values of sustainability, voluntary simplicity, frugality, and minimalism. This is a peek way behind-the-scenes of my daily rituals, which I've crafted to be basic, minimal, and sustainable for my current lifestyle and in relation to environmental impact. An amusing reference for my future self and perhaps of interest to other nosy/curious creatives who like to move through the world relatively lightly and well-equipped.

I used to really struggle with the shape and it does not come comfortably or naturally for me, but hanks to work with wise teachers and engagement with texts, I now appreciate the benefits of the Down Dog stance and explore modifications and variations of this classic yoga form that work for me.

Hello gentle person, Happy almost-August, still solidly Summer Break from school here in Germany, but back-to-school in many parts of the US. Making the most of a lighter season of work myself for reflection, dabbling in seasonal activities and hobbies. Saddened to hear of the delivery truck attack on Berlin Pride, a reminder that we must keep coming together for the cause of love and acceptance, to demonstrate and protest and take political action as well as live our fullest, freest lives....

Hello gentle person, Happy July and Quarter 3, as well as Independence Day to my fellow Americans! Cologne celebrates PRIDE/Christopher Street Day this weekend and I'm also marking 7 years of living here (according to local tradition I'm now a local), the end of the Schoolyear, and the arrival of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, which has already been hitting hard with a days-long heatwave bringing extreme temperatures to the city. It is also Disability Pride Month! Strawberry Birthday Cake...

Blythe in the sunshine of late spring in Cologne

Hello beautiful, I hope this seasonal transition and email find you well, and that we may dance joyfully through the season. June to me means PRIDE and my birthday month (though Cologne celebrates PRIDE/Christopher Street Day in July), with lots of other significant events, such as Loving Day, Juneteenth, the Summer Solstice, Refugees' Day, end-of-schoolyear celebrations and goodbyes. At this point in the year, I also like to do some midyear reflection, lots of strawberry eating, rose...
