Artsy August updates, Summer Crafts Camp whimsy

Hello gentle person,

Happy almost-August, still solidly Summer Break from school here in Germany, but back-to-school in many parts of the US. Making the most of a lighter season of work myself for reflection, dabbling in seasonal activities and hobbies.

Saddened to hear of the delivery truck attack on Berlin Pride, a reminder that we must keep coming together for the cause of love and acceptance, to demonstrate and protest and take political action as well as live our fullest, freest lives. It can feel discouraging, heavy, disheartening to try to go on with our work. We need to grieve and process in our own ways, then get back to the business of creating the world we wish to live in.

I am committed to bringing joy no matter what, transparent and authentic and strongly standing in the possibility for growth for individuals, communities, and our global society. When I am able to, I will also bring childlike play, fun, whimsy and fantasy. On that note, I've created an (all ages, any time frame) Arts & Crafts Camp to make the most of the season:

Practicing:

  • Having celebrated Cologne Pride at the beginning of the month, and Radical Pride as well, we will March again on August 9th
  • Small Space Canary Fairy Ballet Variation Pt 3 - solo draft - online students' reference video on YouTube is an online class extract is inspired by the "Canary Fairy" variation in the classical ballet "Sleeping Beauty." In part one, we learned the first portion of a simplified, smaller-space version of the this classical solo, in part 2 we practiced through to the end, and now in Part 3 I demonstrate once from behind and once from the front further refining our performances.
  • Sweet Summer Inks & Juicy Pens Currently Inked video on YouTube is a chatty showcase of the bright and beautiful seasonal inks I've got in my fountain pens, which are writing juicily and which need a little loving
  • Eating all the treats of summer, obsessed with homemade Cold Brew coffee, Cioccomenta (mint & shaved chocolate) Ice Cream, fresh Nectarine-Blueberry Müsli, Watermelon

Practicing Together LIVE / Adult Movement Classes:

  • Online Yogalicious Gentle Yoga. 7-8:00pm CEST Mondays (7-8:00am HI) provides a delicious mindful movement feast which balances strength, balance and coordination for mind, body, and spirit and is adaptable to all levels and conditions (English)
  • Online Balletlicious Adaptive Ballet Barre+, 8:30-9:30 am CEST Fridays (Thursday p.m. HI) consists of mostly supported barre exercises with a little dancey centre work, building a strong, body-friendly, and graceful foundation for dance at home or anywhere in the world. (English)

Inquiring:

  • How are you savoring the harvest of the season?
  • What techniques for reflection and completion do you use?
  • How can we bring light and color to the darkness?

Gladly share your response to the questions above or provide other updates by replying to this email.

Thank you for reading, for being, and for dancing with me, in spirit or in fact. Take care of yourself, pay attention, and keep moving mindfully!

Hello gentle person, Happy July and Quarter 3, as well as Independence Day to my fellow Americans! Cologne celebrates PRIDE/Christopher Street Day this weekend and I'm also marking 7 years of living here (according to local tradition I'm now a local), the end of the Schoolyear, and the arrival of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, which has already been hitting hard with a days-long heatwave bringing extreme temperatures to the city. It is also Disability Pride Month! Strawberry Birthday Cake...

Blythe in the sunshine of late spring in Cologne

Hello beautiful, I hope this seasonal transition and email find you well, and that we may dance joyfully through the season. June to me means PRIDE and my birthday month (though Cologne celebrates PRIDE/Christopher Street Day in July), with lots of other significant events, such as Loving Day, Juneteenth, the Summer Solstice, Refugees' Day, end-of-schoolyear celebrations and goodbyes. At this point in the year, I also like to do some midyear reflection, lots of strawberry eating, rose...

Fresh Hawaiian Papaya

Hello beautiful, Hope you had a peaceful World Tai Chi/Qigong Day, freely moving International Dance Day as well as the other events of April. After a full year away, I made it back to Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i and I'm so happy and fortunate to be able to spend time at home with my parents as well as have some time by the sea and adventures with Ela. For the next couple of weeks I'll be less connected online but still occasionally present and publishing, focusing on being here, celebrating my...
