Yoga ReTREAT Day 5: Kick Back into Open-Hearted Gentle Backbends - Mudra, Cobra, Sphynx, Bridge

Congratulations on attaining Day 5 of the Yogalicious ReTREAT, whether you're participating in real time, completing the sequence in 5 days or more!

Do you ever feel closed-off, separate, collapsed, or jus not quite yourself? Although turning inward (such as we did physically in the forward folding practices, as well as metaphorically) has its place, we want to balance that action with opening up and reaching out.

Today we’re going to float our hearts open, leaning back to receive all the goodness in our lives.

We’ll be stretching through the back and shoulders in standing or seated, prone, and supine shapes and finding our favorite backbending flavors. We’ll also practice a slightly prolonged and deeply relaxing 5:5 breathing pattern.

With this practice our virtual yoga reTREAT is complete! I hope you have relished your daily escape and know that you can always come back to the practices when you need them.

Ways to keep savoring your retreat experience:

Questions for Reflection:

  • What value have you received or generated by participating in the ReTREAT?
  • What feels missing, incomplete, or disempowering in your ReTREAT experience?
  • What do you want to be acknowledged for?
  • What parts of the ReTREAT practices do you wish to integrate into your life?
  • What structures of support will you put in place to help you remember?

May these nurturing habits of mindful movement and self-care become a permanently beneficial part of your daily ritual.

I am so happy to have you here and to support you in living an extraordinary life!

Love, Blythe

Hello gentle person, Happy almost-August, still solidly Summer Break from school here in Germany, but back-to-school in many parts of the US. Making the most of a lighter season of work myself for reflection, dabbling in seasonal activities and hobbies. Saddened to hear of the delivery truck attack on Berlin Pride, a reminder that we must keep coming together for the cause of love and acceptance, to demonstrate and protest and take political action as well as live our fullest, freest lives....

Hello gentle person, Happy July and Quarter 3, as well as Independence Day to my fellow Americans! Cologne celebrates PRIDE/Christopher Street Day this weekend and I'm also marking 7 years of living here (according to local tradition I'm now a local), the end of the Schoolyear, and the arrival of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, which has already been hitting hard with a days-long heatwave bringing extreme temperatures to the city. It is also Disability Pride Month! Strawberry Birthday Cake...

Blythe in the sunshine of late spring in Cologne

Hello beautiful, I hope this seasonal transition and email find you well, and that we may dance joyfully through the season. June to me means PRIDE and my birthday month (though Cologne celebrates PRIDE/Christopher Street Day in July), with lots of other significant events, such as Loving Day, Juneteenth, the Summer Solstice, Refugees' Day, end-of-schoolyear celebrations and goodbyes. At this point in the year, I also like to do some midyear reflection, lots of strawberry eating, rose...
