Cultivating exquisite well-being, borrowing practices from Self-Care September

Hello beautiful,

Happy Autumn! With the Equinox past, we are officially in a new season and holy moly, next week we will greet October and Quarter 4!

I find Self-Care September to be very well-timed to balance what can be a very demanding time of year, with Back-to-School well underway, the holidays and end-of-year overwhelm looming.

In September this year I shared some examples on social media, such as the importance of bountiful Snacks when on-the-go, feel-good Stretching, stocking up on my Creative Supplies, taking time for Mindful Movement, and cooking up early-fall snacks like Apple Cinnamon Muffins, Chocolate Chip Cookies and Popcorn among other favorites.

Self-Care need not be selfish, and in fact as Lenora E. Houseworth shares in the article The Radical History of Self-Care, the concept stems from community organizing, social activism, and sustaining service to others.

Of course, Self-Care is important all year! You can try the ideas in this week's blog out anytime, and I will continue to pass along resources I think you will find valuable and inspiring:

Practicing:

Practicing Together LIVE this week:

  • In-Studio Adult Beginner Ballet, 6-7:00pm CET Mondays, Tanzschule Tanzraum Nippes, Cologne, Germany creates a strong, body-friendly, and graceful foundation for dance and will be guest taught by another teacher on September 30th to allow me to spend time with visiting family! (German)
  • Online Yogalicious Gentle Yoga. 7-8:00pm CET Tuesdays (7:00am HI) provides a delicious mindful movement feast which balances strength, balance and coordination, mind body and spirit (English)
  • In-Studio Barre a Terre / Strength & Stretch for all dancers at 6-7:00pm CET Thursdays, Tanzschule Tanzraum Nippes, Cologne, Germany is an hour of floor-based feel-good functional conditioning for all dancers (German)
  • Online Balletlicious Gentle Adaptive Ballet Barre+ 8-9:00am CET will likely be another day/time this week - message me if you want to attend, consists of mostly barre with a little dancey centre work, building a strong, body-friendly, and graceful foundation for dance at home or anywhere in the world (English)

Inquiring:

  • What practices support your well-being?
  • Which skills or habits are you working on currently?
  • Which simple steps or structures of support are missing that could make a difference?
  • What creative challenges are you planning next quarter: Inktober, NaNoWriMo, Vlogmas...?
  • How can I support you in self-care, self-love, self-actualization?

You're welcome to respond to the questions above and gladly provide other updates by replying to this email or on social media if you are active there. I would love to see you in a mindful movement class, coaching session, or other context soon!

Love, Blythe

Hello beautiful, Ah, there truly is no place like home! It was such a treat to participate in World Tai Chi Day, witness WHDT's "The Wizard of Oz Ballet," and host my new Fine Feedback workshop here in Kona for student and emerging choreographers and dancers. We have also been hitting the beach, visiting with neighbors, touristing around, star and bird-watching and helping out my folks. On May Day itself, we were exploring the splendid Hamakua Coast beaches, gulches, and waterfalls on the way...

Mount Hood from Mount Tabor Park in Portland, OR

Hello beautiful, We had a magical time visiting Portland, Oregon, and it is good to see my family on the Big Island. So grateful to be in beloved places with treasured people, and definitely want to return sooner next time! This week and next in Kailua-Kona I am offering regularly-scheduled online classes, and the week of May 12th I return to classes in Cologne. I also have the opportunity to MC "The Wizard of Oz Ballet" at the Kahilu Theatre on Saturday and will be leading a new workshop I'm...

Hello beautiful, Spring is here in this "real time" and place of Cologne, Germany in April, 2025 and it's time for me to take on another creative writing challenge! Also want to accomplish something artistic this month? There are a lot of ways to make the process fun with support and accountability from others, and here I'm sharing how I'll be doing so this season (and how I keep my writing practices going on all year). On the blog this week, I'm sharing about my writing challenge for April:...
